Meet Results

Unfortunately, I am unable to post all the meet results, but I will do my best to find out the best way to do this.

Tonight's meet proved to be a challenge for the Vulcans. The team was excited but nervous at the same time. Since the team has 9 new girls out of 15 total girls there was definitely a obstacle to overcome. The girls swam very well, but lost with a score of 108 to 95. A few close races were lost which had an impact on the score, but the Vulcans still fought until the end. The team had a challenge coming into the meet from a long travel and a 4 hour time difference. This definitely had a slight impact on their overall performance.

Coach Ed Denny commented "Since the team had a majority of new members this meet was able to show us where we are and knowledge for future meets. I am glad the first session is over with. I have learned a few things that we will build upon for tomorrow and further more into the season. Disappointed that we lost but gained valuable knowledge from the experience."

Assistant Coach Jessica Siegele also commented "The main obstacle was the long travel and time difference. Whenever you have a long travel and a time difference your body needs time to adjust to it all. We flew in yesterday and competed today, that is a challenge in itself. I am pleased with the performances but there are little things that need to be adjusted."

After asking the freshman how they felt about their first college swim meet, I got the sense that they were pleased but not satisfied with their overall performances this evening. Freshman Georgia Emert had this to say, "I was intimidated and nervous coming into tonight. I really enjoyed the experience and had fun. I learned that our team is very team orientated."
There were two swimmers that made PSAC qualifying times, sophomore Melissa Gates and freshman Bruna Carvalho. Melissa qualified in the 50 freestyle and also broke the pool record winning in 24.23 seconds. Bruna qualified in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:55.98 and the 200 butterfly in 2:15.41. There were a few girls that just missed PSAC qualifying times.
As a whole, the team came out strong but with the long travel and time difference their bodies were under pressure. Even though they did not have a victory the girls continued to stand tall and smile.

Tomorrow is a whole new day! We are going to get after it and we hope to bring home a win!

The meet begins at 12:00pm.
